Once again we collaborate with the Canary Island's Fantastic Film Festival Isla Calavera Ciudad de La Laguna to create a game inspired by movies. In this edition the festival commemorates the 100th Anniversary of Nosferatu, eine Symphonie des Grauens, made in 1922 as an unofficial adaptation of Bram Stoker's 1897 novel Dracula. While being a low-budget film made for German audiences it ended up being a worldwide cult movie, one of the main reasons being the creature itself, Nosferatu. SpongeBob SquarePants probably helped a bit, but it was already a cult movie.

We came up with a hack'n'slash arcade - something quick to pick up, understand and play: this is you, this is your sword, put the pointy end inside those creatures and destroy their nests. 

The story takes place in La Laguna, home of the movie festival. We wanted to visit real places and characters who actually lived there. Players control Thomas (a reference to Thomas Hutter, main character in the movie), a descendant of pirate Amaro Pargo, who was also a vampire hunter. In the game's lore, not in real life (well, who knows). 

Thomas fights against the Cult of the Skull, a sect that brought Nosferatu to the city, and the plagues that the creature carries. The cult didn't exist, it takes its name from the festival, but Amaro Pargo was indeed a pirate who had a relation with María de Jesús de León y Delgado, a nun that also appears in the game. Thomas must visit their resting places to adquire new skills in his quest to destroy Nosferatu.

While game stages are procedurally generated, their looks are inspired by actual locations in La Laguna. De la Vega Park, Saint John the Baptist Cemetery, Santa Catalina Monastery, the University's main building and Lercaro Palace. 

With 10 enemies, 12 stages and 3 boss fights, the game can be completed in under an hour. Slash, dash, shoot and invoke divine powers to get ride of bats, rats, cultists and undead creatures! Slay NOSFERATU ITSELF!
